The first week of my PR experience started immediately with an important event in Travel, the Vakantiebeurs. Since it was new to me to see it from a PR perspective I got a lot of new insights about the upcoming holiday season.
An important subject was the current political tensions and terrorist attacks in different countries. I learned 2016 was a turbulent year in travel because of these tensions. Fact is that we can’t do much about it and that this will become our new reality. But how will we handle this when it comes to travel/holidays in 2017?
Despite this new reality the Dutch are still very eager to travel the world. Research shows the following results (NBTC-NIPO Continu Vakantieonderzoek 2016-2017):
- 75% of Dutch people has the intention to go on holiday in 2017
- 65% of Dutch people has the intention to go as frequent on holiday as in 2016, 18% intents to go more often
From my own perspective I see it like this, we still want to escape from the everyday activities and go somewhere where we can relax and have a good time. Besides we have the possibility to choose from all kind of the destinations. We can keep the safety in consideration when choosing one. I think going away on a wonderful holiday is worth more than staying at home and think what if?
In short, I don’t let the tensions in the world limit my choices in travel. Neither should you, enjoy what’s to come!
