Last week I had my first trip abroad for work. This trip was about experiencing the properties of our new client Martinhal Family Hotels & Resorts. The Martinhal properties are located in Portugal and offer families a luxury holiday experience. It was great to experience the ‘product’ and destination by first hand. An overview of my adventures in Portugal!

Day 1 – Amsterdam – Faro – Quinta do Lago – Sagres

Last Friday our trip started quite early, at 4 am. After a 3 hour flight we arrived in rainy Portugal. We picked up the car and drove to our first destination: Martinhal Quinta. A beautiful resort in Quinta do Lago. There, Daniela, our contact person was waiting for us. We started with a coffee and breakfast at the restaurant O Terraço in the resort. After this delicious breakfast we got a tour around the property and the area of Quinta do Lago. This Martinhal location offers different luxury villas (2-5 bedrooms) all with a private pool! Around Quinta do Lago there is lots to do: golf, water activities, horse riding, jeep safari and much more …

After our stop in Quinta do Lago we continued to Sagres. This village has definitely an end-of-the-world feel. Martinhal Sagres is situated on a beautiful spot just above the seaside. After some freshing up we had a wonderful lunch with a stunning view of the beach and sea. Martinhal serves fresh, tasty and interesting food and wine, all made in Portugal. They also have a special menu for the kids. We ended the day with a tour around the property. It was a busy and long day but definitely worth while!

Day 2 – Sagres – Cascais

On Saturday we checked-out of Martinhal Sagres and just before we left for Cascais, we paid a short visit to Cabo San Vincente. Europe’s most southwestern point. After our visit we drove along the coast towards Lisbon, passing through beautiful landscapes of the Algarve and the Alentejo. Around 2.30 pm we arrived at our next destination, Martinhal Cascais. To get there we had to take a scenic route along the wild coastline. Although we had some rain the day before, this day was a beautiful one with a lot of sunshine. We checked into our rooms, with again a stunning view, and decided to rent a bike. We cycled along the coast to the centre of Cascais. After a good work out we left for Sintra, a place with castles, palaces and mansions. Surrounded by gardens and parcs. Our day ended with a dinner in the resort.

Day 3 – Cascais – Lisbon

On Sunday morning our colleague from Belgium, Birgit, arrived. Together we met with our contact person, Rosa, here, she gave us a tour around the property of Cascais and afterwards we left for Lisbon. What a difference with the other locations of Martinhal, Martinhal Chiado is located in the middle of Lisbon. Situated in a beautiful old building. When you step outside you look down and see the river. That afternoon we explored the city by foot and visited São Jorge Castle, a castle on the top of Lisbon. It was quite a climb up there, strolling around the little streets and steps. Once at the top we got an amazing view over the city.

Day 4 – Lisbon – Amsterdam

Our last day in Portugal, Lisbon, started with a meeting followed by a delicious lunch. We got served several dishes from salmon salad to chicken sandwiches and a vegetarian tortellini. And to top it of a piece of oreo lemon cheesecake :). When I think about it, it makes my mouth water again. After lunch we walked for a little while around Lisbon and visited a local market. Just before leaving to the airport we ended this amazing trip with a drink alongside the water.

What an amazing first trip at a very nice destination! Martinhal Family Hotels & Resorts offers families a luxury holiday experience with delicious food and enough activities for the whole family.
